Rebusspiel is painted by Wolfgang Hutter. The painting was created in the year of 1961. The painting is currently being displayed at The Tampa Museum of Art in the heart of Down Town Tampa. Rebusspiel is a German word; when translated to English, it is called the Rebus Game. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, rebus is a riddle or puzzle made up of letters, pictures, or symbols whose names sound like the parts or syllables of a word or phrase. Hutter used art elements to create a perplexed painting that has a vibrant surrounding while the center of focus seems to be in distress. The artist, Wolfgang Hutter, was an Austrian fantastic realist painter. Hutter was born in 1928 and passed away at the age of 86 in 2014. Hutterââ¬â¢s artworks seemed to focus on botanical theme. His works ââ¬Å"â⬠¦explore themes of the fantastic and magic, featuring playful takes on subjects such as gardens and dollsâ⬠(Neuendorf). Fantastic realism is magic realism, which offers a â⠬Å"â⬠¦calm admiration of the magic of being, of the discovery that things already have their own facesâ⬠(Rà os). It helps to influence oneââ¬â¢s imagination. Rebusspiel is a two-dimensional art piece. It was painted with oil paint on Masonite, which is a type of hardboard. The hardboard is made of wood fibers and glue being molded into flat boards (Body-Evans). Oil paint provides artists a few advantages over the other types of paints.
